Toilet problems and pulling by Maltese puppy - 2009-08-02
Question
I have a 3 month old adorable Maltese Terrier. I've had her for 1 month, and is being toilet trained but when she leaves her area and goes into the lounge/dining areas she wees on the floor/carpet? Secondly she pulls at everyone's trousers/shoe laces and also bites no matter how many no’s she gets???
Answer
Carpet is used similar to grass to hide the wee and still leave the scent. So please make up 25% white vinegar and rest water in spray bottle and after clean spray liberally and allow fibres and/or cement/mortar to absorb this so the smell can dissolve. Take the puppy on a leash to the same spot at least every 2 hours until habit formed and she will go and toilet with you @ same spot. The pulling & biting is attention seeking behaviour and by saying no it is reinforced. Stall tall and still, no eye contact and wait for her to stop and then move on. Typical puppy behaviour – treat her like a dog and behaviour will fade. Seek professional help if persists.
