Beagle/Cavalier that wants to come in - 2008-12-31
Question
We have an 8 year old Beagle X Cavalier KC, up until a week ago she has been a well behaved dog. She has started jumping (repeatedly banging her paws) on our back sliding doors early morning and at night after being fed as if she wants to come in - she has never been allowed to sleep inside. As soon as we go out to stop her she runs off as if nothing has happened, we have put chairs etc in front of the doors to deter her but as soon as we remove them the banging starts again. We have put her in her kennel immediately afterwards. It's been about a week now and we are not sure what to try next! We are both on holidays now so she's not left on her own for long periods of time.
Answer
Has something changed recently in your life that can have triggered this sudden change? Can be small thing, eg being @ home, or changed work times etc. Dogs work on sun light and when there is the sun they are awake, so summer may create some challenges. You could secure her in another enclosed area, eg laundry / garage. You could ignore it and it will stop. If you have close blinds and/or curtains so she cannot see in. Ensure that whilst at home for the festive season, she is not all the time in – as being out than becomes associated with you being away, and creates this sort of behaviour. If persist see a trainer as this can get worse if not addressed.
